The Formula Student competition allows would be motorsport engineers to demonstrate their technical prowess by designing and racing a single seat openwheel race car and competing in a final show down at the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.

The competition sees universities from all over the world taking part in the gruelling technical challenge. With many competitors hoping to secure an engineering role in Formula 1 in the future.

Mercedes GP team Principal Ross Brawn is the patron of the competition and Sauber Formula 1 team where involved in this years competition by sharing resources with Swiss Team ETH Zurich.

Mobil 1 The Grid was at this year's finale to meet some of the budding engineers and see the action from the ingeniously designed cars.
